“Yeah I’m better off now, that’s what I tell myself”
Speakeasy are back and I was wetting my lips knowing I had the chance to preview the track and put a review together before it was released. I reviewed their previous track ‘Dream Boy’ and it was a great little tune, 'Amy Street' is even better. I love the overall sound Speakeasy have been producing with their latest releases and the whole ‘dream’ quality that comes through on their tracks.
‘Amy Street’ begins with a nice reverb effect on the guitar and vocals which really sets the groundwork for the track. As the first verse progresses the bass kicks in and another layer of vocals follows which builds nicely to an instrumental break that has a nice little guitar riff thrown in. I got a HUGE Citizen vibe from the track - which is a great thing. I like the addition of the second vocalist that comes in the second verse.
The chorus kicks in with the harmonizing ‘Woo’s’ which are awesome and the repeated line ‘Yeah I’m better’. The track books along nicely with some nice little instrumental breaks throughout. I enjoy the featuring artists voice, it’s smooth and pretty chilled which fits the whole vibe of the track, I especially like the harmonizing vocals throughout it adds some depth to the track as the main vocalist doesn’t - how do you say it, go overly hard – which is not needed in a track such as this, just so we are clear. A nice little solo comes in to round out the track, it’s not a face melting solo by any means but it’s got a sweet dream like quality to it and adds to the track nicely.
The production quality is top notch on the track. Each instrument and vocal track cuts through nicely. I really dug the bass tone and the drums had a great sound to them also.
Overall, I’m equally or maybe more impressed with this release then ‘Dream Boy’. It’s got a great sound to it and it’s a sound that you (well I) haven’t heard too often lately. It’s got a pop sensibility to it but its mixed with a real dream like quality that takes it above your average pop /rock tune. It’s well written, well played and well put together. Another big tick for the Speakeasy lads and another track that has left me wanting to hear more from them – I’m gunna do my best to get out to their release show – you should to!
Would You Go And See Them (WYGAST) 4/5
