“Life on the sea, is a beautiful dream Sounds so sweet hearing dead men scream”

Brisbane pirate metal outfit Lavidius formed in 2008. Their hard-hitting music; with low roars, down-tempo grooves and blistering riffs are sure to burn your face off! They have also announced in recent news, the arrival of their new front man, Ben Davis. Other members such as Jon Shedden (guitar and backing vocals), Marcus Glover (guitar), Sebastian Desmarais (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Ben Bowen (drums) have remained.

Their brand new song is about a pirate named Captain Benjamin Hornigold, during the Spanish war who turned to piracy after the war ended and there was no use for his sailing experience.

He and his crew got so drunk one night after a successful raid that they all threw their hats overboard.

When they woke the next morning, they realised their mistake and hunted down a cargo ship and boarded it. They tied up the entire crew and could have pillaged all of their cargo, rum and food; but instead, they only took the crew's hats to replace the ones they had thrown overboard the night before!

This song starts off with a great riff that only gets heavier as it progresses through the song. The story progresses throughout the song telling the tale of Benjamin Hornigold and his adventures at sea.

The chorus has a great group chant that is absolutely something you could see pirates singing on a ship and the theme of this song reminds me of Alestorm or Lagerstein and the band do a great job of telling all the details of the story.

It’s a well written song and no parts seem to go on too long or not long enough. Then once it hits the bridge, it bursts in to a fantastic solo that fits the song really well.

The song ends with a long roar from vocalist Ben that compliments the heaviness of the song just nicely.

The video clip for this song is great and has all the words so you can sing along and get it stuck in your head!
