"The best of us left years ago and so did the best of me"

Brisbane indie-popper Aiden Bradley has gifted us with his latest release ‘Mess Things Up’ featuring our very special Lilli Rose Porter.

We open with a clean guitar that has beautiful warm tones, arpeggiated chords, indicating that we are definitely listening to indie pop as I begin to see autumn leaves with the afternoon sun bursting through the breaks in the trees. A warm and comforting vibe is set throughout and Aiden begins to sing in a very rhythmic pattern, bringing a faint amount of energy that aligns well with the smooth guitar. A soon as Lilli comes in, the dynamics between the two are showcased well and they seamlessly trade off vocal parts with no extra layering or harmonies and it works very well.

The song isn’t very innovative in terms of lyrics, but the lyrics are quite beautiful and simple as they touch on young love, falling in and out of it and making many mistakes along the way.

Though, don’t get me wrong, simple is good in indie pop.

My favourite part of any song is usually the bridge, and this song is no exemption. The lyrics begin to really depict the darkness of heart break and as it leads into the final chorus, I feel little fireworks go off in my chest. A great single from Aiden again and with the help of Lilli, it has truly made it a special little gem of a song.
