“Time is on my side. It’s been healing me. And I can see the light upon the ground. Life is golden now It’s fulfilling me. And my empire lifts me through the clouds. I’m not giving up. I’m not coming home. Time is on my side. I’m not coming home.”

Following on from the release of 'The Sitch', the boys in Windwaker have gone back to the more traditional band playing in an abandoned warehouse cliché but with a twist. The music video directed by Colin Jeffs gives a great deal of attention to the concept of time using the Melbourne city streets as a backdrop. They use sands passing through hourglasses, cogs in stopwatches, winding clock hands and even the iconic clockface of Flinders Street station to highlight the preciousness of time.

The use of strobe lighting, coloured filtered lights and reflective puddles of water work really well to highlight each of the band members. It creates a silhouette and halo effect around the guitarists while they perform their solos and the camera spins adds a flair for the dramatic. This is intercut with time-lapse footage of the Melbourne streets at night time. The neon lighting of the signage and city buildings really pops here and is a nice contrast to the close-up shots of the band.

I think that the music video does a great job of reflecting the themes and the atmosphere contained on the track through moody light effects, a night time setting and focusing on the passing of time. The track itself has a strange, other world quality to it especially with the opening guitar solo before exploding into a soaring melody-driven chorus. Vocalist Will does a neat job balancing several vocal ranges, overlapped and at times suppressed with layers of programming but always coming to the forefront at the right moments.
