On the 21st of March, we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day! And it's great to see one of our own Aussie musicians step up to the plate and hit a home run.
Kylie Soanes of the Perth based band Legs Electric has donated her long time drum kit to a 14 year old passionate music lover, Rosco House.
Along with the drum kit Kylie and fellow band member Evan Gooden donated a $100 Mega Music instrument store voucher that I'm sure Rosco will put to good use.
As a lover of music, I can only imagine just how happy Rosco was to receive the drum kit from a band he loves, with his mother Annie describing it 'As though he had won the lotto' and the smiling and head banging has yet to stop.
Rosco is one of the many kids who are a part of the Music Rocks program which teaches kids with special needs how to play musical instruments. Music is a universal language that speaks not only to the mind but more importantly to the heart. It's the one thing people on opposite sides of the world can find a connection with.
"Music makes everyone happy, and every dream starts with an opportunity" as Kylie so elegantly put, in my humble opinion, you've just gave Rosco the opportunity to fulfil that dream and it's something that Rosco and his family will never forget.
As a musician, it's always great to see bands give their fans and lovers of music something special. And when it comes from some local talent, it just makes it all that much sweeter.
