“as the gates slam shut, condemning you, a prisoner to your own faith”
Catholic Guilt dropped their latest single 'The Awful Truth', giving us a taste of what they call “Honest Music”, to which I can say is quite a unique concept.
Stumbling across the Melbourne based bands new single I found myself abusing the repeat button, purely trying to figure out what message the up and coming group is trying to portray to us.
'The Awful Truth' is Christian rock that’s anti-Christian. The band uses the same major keys and song structure that mimics a lot of other gospel type rock, but almost as a lure for their intended but non expecting audience.
The overwhelmingly familiar tone and structure if the song is sure to entice Catholics/Christians and religious listeners, only to then be unsuspectingly stunned by the honest and harshly true lyrics composed.
I wouldn’t want to direct all my attention to this clever display of psychology, I can say I enjoyed the combination of a well written riff and beautiful clean vocals performed by Brenton Harris. This is a song any Camp Cope or Bright Eyes fan would instantly enjoy.
I honestly wish the best of luck to this group. Their concept is clever and I hope to come across more music from them in the future.
Check out 'The Awful Truth' for yourself on almost all streaming platforms and be sure to stalk their Instagram for more brutally honest tracks.
