“It kills me to see you this way and I want you to know I’ve always got your back”

BLKLST are back with another collection of absolute masterpieces, diving deeper than ever into nu metal with a heavy twist. The EP consists of one chilling introduction and 5 tracks from the Melbourne based ensemble – It’s not the BLKLST we expected, but needed. With captivating lyrics that make you want to pay attention to what’s being said and beautiful guitar work that truly sets the mood, it gets you thinking. I’ve never saved anything so quickly to my playlist (honestly).

The second track 'Something Inside Me' really caught my attention first, it's a heavy yet beautifully simple song with a classic catchy chorus we’re all destined to love (me, personally, am a massive sucker for a catchy chorus). Given that the track is simple, its unique in its own artistic way. Just like always – screams are clean and perfectly pitched for the type of music BLKLST is writing. Stunning cleans from Joshua Westwick really tie everything together, making “Something Inside Me” one of my favourites from the EP.

The next track that really caught my attention is 'Let Go'. This is a heavily emotional song, that truly made me reflect on personal experiences. I absolutely adore it when I’m able to connect with an artist or song on that level, it reminds me why I’m in this industry in the first place. The track starts with a gorgeous riff, hitting all those minor keys that truly tug on the heartstrings – Finishing with just the right amount of aggression, to again – perfectly set the tone. Personally, I think it’s safe to say I gave a new favourite song to keep on repeat for the next few weeks.

BLKLST have really refined their sound in this new EP, proving to the scene that Nu Metal is very much alive and breathing. The constant groove and song writing is second to none. Every song on "Spider Love" is very well executed. The production is crispy clear and full of energy in every aspect – Evan Lee and Ash Daws at the Loud Noise Estate are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to mixing and mastering. In Summery, this EP is one to back in 2019.
