“Don’t want to be like you

Wish that someone told me I’d just be like you”

Hailing from Brisbane, QLD, pop rock trio The Lost Knights released the track ‘Someone’ back in February and to say it is an absolute powerhouse from start to finish would be an understatement, I'm still spinning it months later and have no intention of stopiing.

To introduce the song, TLK offer a short guitar build up which transitions into an explosive section lead by a gentle vocal melody, backed up by powerful guitars and drums that gently ease us into the first verse. The layers are smoothly stripped back and reduced to just the piano and vocals, thus creating a beautiful atmosphere to set the stage for the dynamic contrast between chorus and verses.

The vocals were the first thing to stand out amongst the opening moments of this composition and enrapturing could be the only way I can describe them. Synchronized with Terry's very warm vocal timbre, it's an absolute joy to listen to. As soon as the chorus comes into the fray we are re-introduced to the tasteful vocal melody and instrumental backdrop from the intro which achieves the goal of reinforcing the energy throughout the track. The second verse has more layers to it with more prominent drum work and harmonies which do a great job of providing growth and developing the track throughout the duration of 'Someone'. While listening to this song for the first time, I was not aware that The Lost Knights had yet to show all of their cards with their abilities...until I reached the bridge that is.

Working towards the end of the song, Terry and Jesse (Guitars/Vocals) introduce some new vocal stylings and start incorporating more fast paced, rap-influenced phrasing to keep 'Someone' feeling fresh late on without abandoning any of its musical integrity. The section is rounded out with a brief melody-driven instrumental interlude before sliding right back into the final chorus, this is where the band truly shines. It's at this point I believe that listeners can truly appreciate the range and skills of the vocalists with their repeated lyrics of “Don’t want to be like you/Wish that someone told me I’d just be like you” being sung to the heavens with clear, strong emotional reinforcement behind it.

Prior to hearing this track, I had not heard of The Lost Knights but I am so very thankful to have been introduced to them through this single. 'Someone' contains so many different layers and styles that it has something for almost everyone to be able to listen to and thoroughly enjoy, best of luck to these guys down the track.
