Independent Western Sydney band Maps To Eden are about to drop the one of the best albums of the year! A few weeks back i got an email asking to listen to their lead single 'Ghost' i loved it but we will get to that later. This is the first album these 3 blokes have released and to be honest i can see plenty more coming off the back of it!
As the album title suggests, this really does have Something For Everyone. Each of the 11 tracks has enough angst and riffs to last a whole year of family dinners!
Ghost- Enough of you will have heard Ghost by now.. It takes us through the topics of white lies and what happens next. The main message in this punk ballad is that music will be there when nobody is, at least that is what i felt.
Bad weather- Contrary to popular belief, this song is actually not really about the weather; nor how bad it is. "I wanna break free, I wanna find me" it's lyrics like this that can be very powerful. The fact that one of the more punk sounding songs opens up the album with lyric content such as this is great! This is one of the tracks that really reminded me of early blink-182.
Third Party Damage- This is the song that really got me listening, Its the perfect pre workout jam! When the chorus drops the song gets a new feel, taking on influences from bands such as ADTR and TSSF. Meshing the hardcore pop punk lyrics with new age Aus Punk Rock. For a band who are 'genre confused' they can certainly hold their own! Especially as they remain 100% independent.
On a serious note, i couldn't pick a BAD song. Maybe one or two that will not be as popular as the others but not a BAD song. The boys are playing an acoustic set on the 30th of this month. Lets hope they're this good live!
I can just see Maps To Eden getting huge really soon. The hottest release in Australia at the moment!
Check out my fav track "In The Dark of Night" its like Our Past Days met Mark Hoppus in a crowded train and could only have dreamed of the day this was released.
Personal Enjoyment: 10/10
