“I've lost myself to this fear that's still dictating me”

Heavy, thunderous power chords of a rhythm guitar complimenting the opposing shrill dissonance from the warped tones of a lead guitar, a looming sense of duality splitting... this plays for a few bars, enough to generate this compelling energy that prepares us for the harsh and monstrous vocals coming in and completely forcing you into the atmosphere of this track; A sharp and powerful opening right from the beginning. Anticlines' 'Paranoia Cycle' featuring Mauvais singer Jaycob Page, is the perfect slap-in-the-face every core kid didn’t know they needed.

Ballarat heavies, Anticline, released their debut EP "Hesitancy" late August 2018 with ground-breaking single 'Paranoia Cycle' and it withstands the likes of Ocean Grove, Antagonist A.D and Make Them Suffer.

The aforementioned ‘duality splitting’ is a theme that I perceive to run across the length of this track both lyrically and sonically. This is exemplified by many aspects of the track, including the double tracked vocals, one voice more nonchalant and deeper than the dominating harsh vocals. At first I thought it was a rough mix, and it might be, but it works perfectly with the dichotomy of the rhythm and lead guitar and creates a sense of chaos and disruption, though most importantly – insanity.

Simple, powerful lyrics, dissonant chords and cathartic screams sonically depicting insanity brewing in the soul of someone who is being consumed by the monotony of day-to-day life. An allegory so powerful, it resonates with us all. Must I repeat, “I've lost myself to this fear that's still dictating me”; those lyrics ring the most resonant with me, working well with this track.

This song and its concept is poetic release, while packing a heavy punch. I went on to listen to their EP in full and it is a high recommendation if you’re looking to let any angst you’ve let brew within you escape through the wondrous catharsis of metal core.

Anticline are definitely on the right path and I encourage you to get behind these guys!
