Jodie got to catch up with Punk band Slut Bomb ahead of their Australian Tour alongside Australian Kingswood Factory! Slut Bomb are on and Aussie right tour now and you can catch them at your local city, find out more here!
//I absolutely love your new Merchandise. Who designed your
It’s our friend Sydnee Anders, she lives right here with us in Cincinnati, minutes away from our place. She’s been a friend of the band since we started and designs a lot of our art. It was a present for Debra’s birthday last year. I think it’s the closest thing to a literal Slut Bomb you can get. We’ll have lots of shirts available on tour, in pink too!
//Who doesn’t love a bit of pink every now and again!
So what inspired the name, Slut Bomb?//
(Deb) Exactly! I knew I wanted to name the band something with the word slut in it because I’ve always been a slut. The other words me and Darrel just threw back and forth.
Cannon, panties, it goes on. We were thinking about even just using the word Slut, but it was taken the bomb adds a bit more emphasis.
//For your first time in Australia, what are you most looking forward to?//
We’re going to have a new split album with our best friends’ band Death of Self from Chicago and it’s going to come out for the first time ever when we come to Australia. You can hear their side of the split Thursday January 31st at 8pm our time on the Super Satan Show this year, we’ll be playing some new and old stuff and it’ll all be live
and online, make sure to check it out. And we’ll make sure that you get an album this time I’m sure we’re all looking forward to different things. I’m excited to see our friend Des’ band Maggot and leave the country, it’s our first time ever. Debra’s excited to see crocodiles, drink, see her friends and make new friends. Taylor’s excited to not die on a plane, he’s pretty afraid of flights and heights. And honestly, we’re all just hoping we don’t lose Brandon on the adventure. He got his ticket a little later than us so he’s on a different plane than we are, who knows where he’ll end up!
//Sounds like you’re all up for a pretty big adventure. Not dying on a plane is a great start. Drinking, some of us like to think is what we do best in Australia. You lot are hail from Cincinnati best known for it chilli, where is your favourite, chilli place?//
Taylor and Debra are the only good ones at drinking in this band, I feel like Brandon
and I are goanna have trouble keeping up. And we’ll definitely have our fill of Tim Tams.
//You’ll be Honorary Aussies before you know it. If you have your own secret recipe it totally counts. Deb, seems to be the kind of front woman, the get in there with the crowd. What’s the craziest thing to happen at a show?//
(Debra) One time when we played in Chicago I ran into the crowd during the first or second song and I bashed my tooth into the mic blood was pouring out my face and I couldn’t feel a thing, I thought my tooth might have come out. We kept going while I was spewing blood but eventually the cops showed up to shut the show down. First the owner of the house came up to me and told me we had to stop. I didn’t tell anyone in the band so they kept playing. Eventually they cut my mic so I just kept yelling into the crowd but someone turned it back on. A couple more times they tried to get us to stop but we didn’t. Eventually the cops came up to the stage and told us to stop. Taylor and Brandon stopped right away but it took Darrel a second. Thankfully no one no one was arrested, but my tooth is still a little messed up though.
(Darrel) This picture is golden, I wanted to use it as our promo pic but Mike wanted something a little more professional. It was dumb, she obviously had nothing better to do. Really good night overall, and one of our more memorable ones.
//It sounds like you all collaborate well together, what inspired you all to do music together?//
Debra was trying to start a band with her friend Kayla, the original drummer of Slut Bomb (not very long at all), and Kyle, the original bassist. They couldn’t find a guitar player. I lived kind of far away but I was really interested in playing with them, and it kind of went from there. Once Taylor joined as our drummer the band sort of relocated to Cincinnati and Brandon, who I’ve been in two other bands with, became our bass player. When we first asked Taylor to play with us, Debra and I pulled him away to talk to him privately and he thought we were trying to have a threesome, hahaha. Taylor was originally just supposed to play our last two shows we had booked when he joined, but he liked it so much we booked more and kept it going, really saving the band.
//I’ll ask you one last question then I’ll leave you be and thank you for being such a good sport.
If you could be any colour in a crayon box, what colour, would you be and why?//
(Debra) Hot pink, it’s fun and sexy!
(Darrel) I think the rest of us are good with that too, hahaha.
