As Dance Gavin Dance make their way around the country, Adelaide got a taste as to why the tour has been a sell-out. Coming along for the ride, Chicago based Veil of Maya, blasted onto the small stage at Jive and let loose.

Encouraging crowd participation, Lukas Magyar took us to the brink and back with his powerhouse vocals opening the night with 'Nyu'. Sam Applebaum (drums), Marc Okubo (Guitar) and Dan Hauser (bass) along with Lukas, keep up the frenetic pace for the set. 'Crawl back', 'Overthrow' and 'Punisher' graced the set list. The final song of the night, 'Mikasa', saw the crowd whip themselves into a frenzy screaming the lyrics back to 'Magyar'. Tonight, Veil Of Maya proved why they have been stayers in the music scene for over a decade.

Six musicians, a small stage and a packed house! This is the stuff amazing gigs are made of. Big sound, and an intimate atmosphere. From the opening notes of 'Son of Robert', to 'Frozen One', 'Count Bassy', 'Lemon Meringue Tie' and 'We Own the Night', Tilian Pearson and Jon Mess’s vocals had us mesmerised with each complimenting the other. Crowd appreciation was high, singing in unison to each song and the lack space didn’t seem to faze anyone with moshing and crowd surfing plentiful The talents of Will Swan who we were lucky enough to interview recently (lead guitar), Tim Feerick (bass), Matt Mingus (drums) and Andrew Wells of Eidola (rhythm guitar) shone as they orchestrated the soundtrack to what was an unbelievable night of music. Not wanting the evening to end the crowd chanted for one more song when Dance Gavin Dance left the stage, they returned and belted out 'Evaporate' off their new album "Artificial Selection". The perfect ending to what was one of the highlight gigs of the year so far.
