“In the end we’re just nothing, nothing but dust”

Machine Age come out swinging with the first single from their upcoming debut album! Having recently toured the country with the likes of The Jungle Giants and Holy Holy, these two lads from Brisbane have been catching the eyes and ears of multiple presenters of Triple J. 'Dust' is a fitting follow-up to these recent successes, cementing their sound and opening the floodgates for a sea of new fans.

The soundscape created has hints of distortion and digital glitches, thick synth bass and impressive vocals that, all together, form a foot-tapping track that is difficult to pigeonhole into any particular genre. There are definitely elements of indie-rock flavour in the vocal style and patterning, with the melody and lilt, harking back to Foals golden days on their first album. Parallels with many parts of 'Dust' could be drawn with Foals tracks like 'Olympic Airways' (if you added a solid dash of electronic flair).

Production is tight, with particular emphasis on the bass and drums. The beat and energy of this track are stand-out elements, with some especially impressive percussion kicking in around halfway in. 'Dust' has enough variety throughout, with some of those juicy vocal and synth hooks that we all love returning often enough to sandwich those delightful bridges and interludes.

Overall, this track may very well be a springboard that catapults Machine Age to a whole new level of recognition and reach.

They have a tour coming in April, where you can catch them in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
