“I got on a ride against my will, its so amazing I made it this far”
As Cities Burn released their new single 'Maybe' off their first album in over a decade earlier last week, completely taking me off guard to what sounds like a very unique style of post hardcore music.
The Louisiana based band truly delivered extremely chill vibes with this new track. I was surely convinced in the first 30 seconds that I was listening to what sounded like a new Sticky Fingers track, until I was hit with a chorus of powerful screams that I felt really didn’t suit the vibe of the song at all.
After listening to the song a few times over, I really couldn’t help but feel it was extremely repetitive and might possibly be more well fitting to a different genre and demographic. I feel the song and layout really does the vocalist no justice, considering Cody Bonnette has such a stunning voice. I love the vibe of the song, I love how well its produced and mixed, I just wish that it had a better structure, I didn’t feel very engaged with the song at all.
All in all, I do think the song is worth checking out. Just because I didn’t see myself engaging in the song, doesn’t mean it isn’t good! The band has complete potential, I guess I just genuinely liked their other tracks just a bit better than this one.
