"I hope you find somebody new
I hope you get what's coming to you
Just remember all the hearts that you broken
I hope you find somebody new"
Melbourne pop punk band, Distracted by Pink recently released their latest single, 'Cheated', and its their first release in quite a while. Not ones to shy away from tried and true territory, the band have produced a solid number that doesn’t break any boundaries but sits comfortably in its own realm.
Australian bands seem to feel more and more comfortable with making their accents apparent in their music as of late, and as soon as the vocals kicked in for this track I got a huge Semantics vibe. The singer sits comfortably within his range and has written easy lyrics to sing along to paired with catchy melodies, this will surely be a hit among their fans when live shows return.
Instrumentally, we’re treated to guitars and drums that are reminiscent of Blink 182 with occasional blends of A Day to Remember scattered here and there. Every member plays their part right and works together to transition seamlessly between verses, buildups and the aforementioned catchy chorus. It wouldn’t hurt for them to experiment a little bit further and push their boundaries, as someone in the band is showing great vocal chops for the backups, but they’ve done exactly what they need to with this song.
There’s a fitting music video to go with this pop punk composition, a classic performance piece coupled with a story derived straight from the lyrics of the song. The performance shots look far better than the narrative scenes, probably due to the colourful and aesthetically appeasing lighting but again, goal achieved for Distracted by Pink.
I’m sure existing fans will find plenty to love about this track and if you’re needing another band to add to your regular spin, Distracted by Pink have you covered.
